I have a feeling this movie is going to be terrible...but this is great.

As far as 80s remakes go, most of the originals were pretty terrible but Robocop was an excellent movie. 2 and 3...ehhh. I like them because I loved them when I was 10, but the original really stands up today.

I'm excited as fuck for the new one. I'm surprisingly open to remakes, sequels, and reinterpretations of my favorie moves(Batman vs Superman and Starwars VII being two others). Most people flipped a shit when Aflack was cast as Batman, but I'm ok with it. I loved Clooney and Kilmer.

The future as seen from 1987: Everything looks like it will punch you in the face.

The future as seen from 2013: Everything looks like it will crumble any second, because it's made out of cheap iPhone plastics and fake carbon fiber.

It's the Nolan effect. People have so much faith in reboots now after Batman proved it was possible/profitable, that reboots are considered "safe bets" for production companies as cash cows because people will still go see them. I feel like 10 years ago, if someone had thrown around the idea of a gritty reboot of Battleship, they would have been laughed at and fired instead of given a multi-million dollar budget.

I just have a real hard time watching the first one. I will probably end up going to see this one just to see how well they did with it. I hope I'm wrong about it.

Agreed. The flip side of that is...there is only one Chris Nolan...Those three movies are honestly some of the finest works of art I have ever seen on film...they are so well-shot, well-acted, well-written, it's mind-blowing. I cannot comprehend how any super-hero movies could ever be better. Combined with the (relatively) rational story of Batman, and for me at least, it was a dream come true. Man of Steel was ok, not as good I thought though. Had a distinct whiff of Michael Bay about it. I still liked it of course...but after The Dark Night/Rises...its literally hard to watch anything else. Its like driving a 458 and then having to go back to, say, a 528i. Not a bad car...but nothing compared to the Fezza.

Nolan, from what I've seen, hasn't had anything to do with Man of Steel. He produced it, put money into it, and put his name on it, but that's about it. No directing, writing, or on-site work as far as I know. He basically just acted as a intermediary between the writer and the studio, sort of an "only if Nolan puts his name on this, will we do it" thing.

But look into classic movies, there are tons of amazing films out there just as good as the Dark Knight, they just aren't in theaters anymore.

Really? Well damn. I'm not sure if that makes me feel good or bad. I was led to believe he had a creative hand in it. So, it not being as good as I had hoped doesn't feel like such of a letdown...flipside is I guess it could have been better if he had.

Oh I agree...there's lots of great movies throughout history. But compared to the larger list of all films ever made, its a short list. I think I can barely even think of a hundred movies period that I actually enjoy and would sit through multiple times.

Dunno... makes me think of this, for some reason:
